We visited the Oyster house due to its history and my constant craving for oysters. The oysters were very pricy at a bit over $20 for 6 oysters, but they were honestly some of the best I've tried! They were from the Cape Cod area and had a wonderful briney flavor. We didn't have anything else but the staple earns them five stars from me!

Had great service by a young gentleman that I wish I remembered his name!! Food was served hot and fresh. Make reservation if you can or wait a few minutes and you will be seated. Easy walk from Fanuiel Hall. Will be back! Ambiance is historical and the place is large with private rooms if you want to have a party.

the opinion of a couple tourists, fresh off a flight from california: pretty darn fantastic from start to finish we were not oyster people prior to this trip but we can safely say we are now oyster fanatics + have this very establishment to thank for it. our wonderful server introduced us to the duxbury and it changed our once sad, oysterless lives. the chowder they make here was also among the top 2 best we had this timr around, and please believe we had plenty of them/ordered them just about everywhere ate if it was served great, casual and friendly service. campy interior, and who doesn't love that. nothing but positive things to say about this restaurant, and will 100% be back the next time we're in this city thank you so much for the wonderful experience!

We walked in, were promptly seated and my friends tried raw oysters for the first time! Love at first slurp. The chowder was delicious as well. Top 3 of our trip to Boston, Nantucket and Salem.

The guru still in Boston sampling the local fare. Today I found myself in the more touristy area of Boston, and it definitely does not get more touristy than this very location. This claiming to be the oldest restaurant in America is certainly intriguing given I thought I had already been to the oldest restaurant when I was in Newport, RI. This place sits at the heart of several historic sites so I can see a family of weary tourists coming in here for a bite. Now before I go any further I will preface this by saying if you came here strictly because you are an oyster super fan and all you care about is freshly shucked oysters than this is your place. They do have a very nice oyster bar so go and enjoy and ignore the rest of this review. Now if you had to pick a touristy place I would certainly go with this one because of its age and there is actually some interesting decorations on the wall detailing the history of Boston. Now for the food. They do have a descent clam chowder and a descent lobster roll. They also have some really nice beer selections so if you just went with that I would say that's a nice meal. However I decided to try some other menu items particularly their shrimp and scallop dish. Their shrimp was good but their scallops tasted a bit overcooked and the sauce was just plain weird tasting. I would say skip that and maybe stick with more simple stuff like their fish and chips or their fish sandwich. They even have a nice kids menu as well. So if you find yourself hungry in these parts definitely do stop by this place and make sure you also get their Boston cream pie for dessert. Yes it's that good. Also the service here is absolutely first class.

It was raining and we were a little hungry and in the neighborhood, so we stopped in. The wait for a table was 45min, but we just wanted something se and saw that there was 2 stools at the Oyster bar, so we grabbed them. The 2 guys working behind that bar were very nice, one even chatted with us about Michigan (where we are from and where he visits). We ordered clam chowder and French Onion soup, plus a Sam Adam's and an Old Fashioned (the server suggested a local bourbon for me to try). Both soups were very good and hit the spot. I loved the history of the place, what a cool place to visit. If you see open spots at the raw bar, grab them, it's like getting a show with your meal. Plus, you might not have to wait for a table. They're not the most comfortable stools fyi...

Figuring this was probably a tourist place, I still felt the need to go there for dinner mainly for the history! And that part did not disappoint! We loved the old feel and saw the famous Kennedy booth. So cool. The food was good, nothing spectacular but it was fine. My mom had the Shrimp Scampi and said it was delicious. I didn't realize fried scallops are a thing on the East Coast. So while it was a little strange for me, I didn't dislike them. We ended with a slice of Boston Cream Pie!

Right along a very popular area of Boston and the freedom trail. The inside had a special charm about it. The clam chowder was very good, if I could go back I'd definitely order a bowl. It had meaty pieces of clams and was very tasty. The oysters are an absolute must. Very fresh. The service was good, nothing like out of this world. However, it's a busy place and you can tell the staff are running around trying to be as attentive as possible to all their tables. We also order the fried clams and the mussels, both of which were good, but nothing that I would specifically return for. There were other tasty options on the menu that I would love to try

I came here for the bar only, so can't speak on the food itself (except dessert). I had to check it out since it's the first restaurant in America and they have a specially made beer brewed from Samuel Adam's Brewery that is only served here as well. Since I'm not a beer drinker, I didn't have this but the others in my party did and enjoyed it. As for myself, I had the Rose Carey ($16), which the description noted it's a strong drink for a strong woman --that's me! This was indeed strong even for a Jameson lover as myself. The spot is antique and full of history making it such a landmark even if it's touristy. Since we just came from dinner, I decided to also get an order of the Boston Cream Pie to try while here. As my first time trying one, this was exactly as it sounded --a cream filled cake with chocolate.
